Jesus is the light of the world. But as we follow him, we begin to think, act, and live different. We begin to live set apart. We make decisions based on the culture Jesus created, not the world’s culture. We start to live by values in our lives that we discover in the Bible, not whatever is currently trending. We live set apart.
We have been set apart, by grace and for the good of others. If you watched our first two videos on this topic then you already unpacked what that means and how it impacts your life. But it doesn’t stop there because we have been set apart by grace for the good of others and the glory of God.
What does that even mean? That sounds like an old churchy word or maybe a word used to describe a battle from a long time ago. I don’t know, we don’t really use that word in our every-day vocabulary anymore. So, let’s talk about it.
One way that word can be used is when we describe the light that comes from the moon. Have you ever looked at the moon at night and it was super bright? Like it literally was bright enough outside it was kind of like a big flashlight? The moon doesn’t have a source of light on its own, it simply reflects the light of the sun. The moon is the glory of the sun.
The same way, when we live set apart for the good of others, we live for the glory of God. Another way to say it is that we put the goodness of God on display in our lives for the whole world to see. Just like the bible says in John 8:12, I am the light of the world.
Jesus is the Light of the world. But as we follow him, we begin to think, act, and live different. We begin to live set apart. We make decisions based on the culture Jesus created not the world’s culture. We start to live by values in our lives that we discover in the Bible, not whatever is currently trending. We live set apart.
And remember it’s by grace. It’s literally His grace that sets us apart, nothing we have done, but because of everything Jesus has already done for us. Think of it like this. The more we receive His grace, the brighter we begin to shine in the darkness just like the moon. We receive His grace every time we engage the word of God, every time we worship, every time we talk to God. Then we live our lives in a way that puts the goodness of God on display for the world to see.
We choose to believe the best about people instead of assuming the worst.
We choose to speak life instead of complaining or tearing people down.
We live for the good of others and the glory of God.
The world is walking in darkness. The more we reflect the light of Jesus with our lives, it lights a path for people to get to Jesus for themselves. When that happens, they find hope for their lives and discover everything is possible in Jesus.
We are set apart by grace, for the good of others and the glory of God. Let’s learn to think, act, and live different so people can discover Jesus, find friendship with God and change their world.
