In this special online-only experience, we lean into what Jesus has for us by resting, receiving His joy, and enjoying the relationships that He has put in our lives.
Hey everybody, welcome to Valley Creek online, and happy fourth of July weekend to you. This is a day and a weekend when we get to rest and enjoy the freedoms we not only have in this country but more importantly that we have in Jesus. It is for freedom that Jesus came to set us free. And so today is a special day because today is an online-only experience. You see, today we’re allowing all of our campuses to just rest. We really believe this is important, we believe it’s incredibly Biblical. In fact, at the end of every year, the last weekend of the year, we shut everything down, let our campuses and our teams and our leaders and our staff all rest.
And then the first weekend of the year, we usually start with a celebration and giving thanks to God for who He is and what He’s going to do in the New Year. Well, this year, halfway through the year, we wanted to celebrate what God has done halfway through the year. That’s what we did last weekend. And then today, we wanted to let everything just rest. You see, it takes a lot to do what we do and so we want our buildings, and our serve teams, and our leaders, and our staff to just rest in Jesus’ name, to take a breath, and then we can keep moving forward together.
You see, to rest requires trust. It requires trusting that God is holding our life together, that He is our provider, that He is protecting us. To rest requires receiving His grace and being aware of His presence and believing that His kingdom has been released into our life.
And here we are halfway through our summer of 60 days of rest, joy and relationship. And so I’ve been telling you our theme, our focus for this whole summer is just to supernaturally rest, have supernatural joy and experience supernatural relationships in Jesus’ name. And so that’s just what we’re doing today. And so I don’t know where you are. I don’t know what’s going on in your life. I don’t know if you’ve traveled, if you’re hanging out with friends or family. But today is a day to just rest in Jesus’ name. In fact, there’s a great story in the Old Testament of the Prophet Elijah. And after a long season where he’s had a lot of victories and a lot of breakthroughs, he ended up finding himself in this really low place. He was weary.
He was wore out. He was depressed. He was defeated. He was discouraged. And so he just kind of laid down and half gave up and fell asleep. And after he had fallen asleep, a little while later an angel came and woke him up and gave him some food and told him to eat. And after he had eaten, he fell back asleep and he took a little nap. And then a little while later the angel wakes him up again and when he is woken up he now has the energy for what God has created and called him to do. God had new things to say to him, a destiny, a vision, a purpose to declare over his life. And because Elijah took a nap and had a snack, he had all the energy he needed to move forward with God, what God had called him to do. And so sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is literally take a nap and have a snack.
And so can I encourage you today? Take a nap and have a snack. Rest, slow down, shut it off, receive God’s grace, enjoy His presence and then have a snack. Have some nourishment for your body, let everything reset, let everything be refilled and then we awake to keep moving forward into the new things that God has in store for us. Today is simply an opportunity to trust God enough and just rest, receive His joy and enjoy the relationships that He has put in your life. You see, next week — next weekend, we’re going to have one of the most important messages of the whole summer, Soul Detox, how to get free from the toxins that we’ve picked up along the way in our mind, in our heart, in our soul so that we can live in the freedom that God has for us.
We are halfway through our 60-day reading plan. So if you’ve dropped off or you are brand new, let me encourage you it’s a great time to jump back in, you still got 30 more of the most important chapters in the Bible to read and engage with us. If you’re not connected with us on social media, be sure to do that so you can be aware of everything that God is doing, so you can be encouraged, so we can impart some supernatural rest, joy and relationships in your life. This week, we got Tuesday night prayer, that’s going to be awesome. Students, Wednesday is movement night. They have been outstanding. We hope to see you there. And if you’re looking for more resources for anything today or this week in your life or your spiritual journey, check out our resource site for worship, messages, encouragement, all kinds of resources to help you and your family keep moving forward with Jesus
Valley Creek today is a day to rest and trust in the goodness of God. I can’t wait to see you next week as we keep moving forward together. For those of you that want to give, you can give online. Like rest, giving requires us to trust in the goodness of the Lord as we receive His grace. But may you go today knowing that God is good, that Jesus has forgiven you, that you are loved and everything is possible in Jesus’ name.
