What do you think? What would Jesus’ social media account look like? How did Jesus get so many followers?
Imagine if we redeemed everything on social media and used it to point people to Jesus, to the abundant life He offers us. Imagine if people come across our accounts and they experience life, joy, freedom, peace, and hope! Not being fake, using our real-life experiences to point people to the hope we have in Jesus.
We know Jesus wants to be a part of social media, now let’s talk about what that actually looks like.
Romans 12:2 says ‘Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” So, what that means is that we’re not supposed to look like the world, talk like the world, post like the world.
Imagine if we redeemed everything on social media and used it to point people to Jesus, to the abundant life He offers us. Like people come across our accounts and they experience life, joy, freedom, peace, and hope! It’s not about being fake either, it’s about using our real-life experiences to point people to the hope we have in Jesus.
So yes, have fun, be you, and do what you love to do, but do it all in a way that is good for others and puts the goodness of God in display.
Jesus wants to be involved with what you do on social media. It’s not about perfection, it’s about relationship.
So, how can you invite Jesus into your social media? How can you let “Do I post this or not” become a conversation with Jesus of “what will best re-present you to a hopeless world and set my heart free?”
Pause before you post and ask
– Does what I am posting accurately reflect my identity as a beloved child of God?
– Who am I posting this for?
– Does this person that you follow, what they post, influence you towards Jesus or away?
How can you ask him to help you steward the platform that HE has given you and use it to advance his kingdom (his rule and reign on earth) over advancing your personal brand?
We know that our beliefs determine our behaviors, and so if you’re struggling to engage social media in a Jesus-focused and life-giving way, that’s an invitation to ask him “Okay Jesus, what is it in my heart, what belief do I have, that is creating that result, that is causing me to use social media like this.” Start there, dig into scripture to see what Jesus has to say about who we let influence us, or how he wants us to present ourselves to the world, maybe have a godly relationship go through your social media with you and give them permission to tell you to take something down. Think of ways that you can encourage and inspire others on social media.
We are a movement of Hope & social media is an incredible way to do just that, move hope. There are atheists who have decided to follow Jesus because of the hope they experienced on social media, Muslims who have realized hope is only found in Jesus because of what they saw on social media, Christians who were struggling but were encouraged in their faith to keep going because of what they experienced on social media. Let’s refuse to be defined by anything other than the hope of Jesus in our lives and on social media!
Jesus for sure wants to be involved with what you do on social media – so think of how you can invite him into that part of your life this week.
