How Do I Build Godly Relationships?

Description

While the world defines friendship as just “someone you know” God has so much more in mind for our relationships.

While the world defines friendship as just “someone you know” God has so much more in mind for our relationships.
Welcome to part two of our friendship series.
“Walk with the wise and become wise”
“As Iron sharpens Iron, so a friend sharpens a friend”
All over the bible you’ll hear a similar message – HEY! Be careful who you hang out with! Take a look at the quality of your relationships! Who you do life with determines the course of your life!
Jesus invites us to move beyond just “friendships” and begin to BUILD Godly Relationships.
Godly Relationships are intentional, face to face relationships that talk about, learn about and become like Jesus together.
The Aaron to your Moses, the Shadrach and Meshach to your Abednego, the Barnabas to your Paul. These people not only did life together, but FOLLOWED JESUS TOGETHER.
Do you have anyone in your life like that? & if you don’t know, the bible tells us what they look like:
Do you encourage each other? (1 Thes 5:11)
Are you kind to each other? (Eph 4:32)
Do you forgive each other? (Eph 4:32)
Pray for each other? (James 5:16)
Speak the truth in love? (Eph 4:15)
& Bear each other’s burdens? (Gal 6:2)
Would you say that your closest relationships look like THAT?
They are intentional, face to face relationships where you talk about, learn about and become like Jesus together.
They are intentional. Which means you have to build them, create time to meet, & say no to other things.
They are face to face. They are the before-school coffee-shop bible-reading meetups. The after-practice sonic-runs. Godly relationships don’t happen over text, you got to get real, and you’ve got to get IN PERSON.
& what sets apart Godly relationships from other relationships, is God. Anyone can intentionally meet up, but only Godly Relationships talk about, learn about, and become like Jesus together. So, is he the topic of the conversation? Do you read the bible together? Do you pray for each other? Challenge each other to live more fully for him?
& if you don’t feel like you have any… here are a few things you can do to build Godly Relationships.
Ask God for them (he is the one that created them. He is the one that said they were good for us. So that means he will be the one to give us them if we will ask.)
Go where Godly People are (Feel like no one at your school is interested in following Jesus? Start going to church consistently. Join a Christian club at your school Bring your bible to school and see who makes a comment.)
Start a friendship (Hang out a few times. You got to make sure they are someone that you want to become like, and they’ve got to make sure you are someone they want to become like)
Define it as a Godly Relationship. How often are you going to meet? What are you going to talk about? What are you going to keep each other accountable to?
No one follows Jesus alone. And you were created for more than passive friendships, you are invited to BUILD Godly Relationships.
And once you build Godly Relationships… you’ll discover how it impacts the rest of your life in a world changing way – so don’t miss part 3 of our series.
