Proverbs 16:9 In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.
Think about what you want out of life, and who you want to become..
Then ask questions like, is what I’m doing now going to get me there? If not, what WILL help me get there? Once you have those answers, you can start your journey of creating good habits.
And it’s a good idea to start small. Just choose one thing you’re going to change and take one next step at a time. One effective way to create good habits is by using the SMART model. Habits that are (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-based.)
Be SPECIFIC – Be as clear and specific as possible with what you want to achieve. The more narrow your goal, the more you’ll understand the steps necessary to achieve it.
They need to be MEASURABLE – Have the ability to measure progress. Setting milestones along the way will give you the opportunity to re-evaluate and course-correct if you need to. When you achieve your milestones, celebrate!
Make sure they are ACHIEVABLE – Before you begin working toward a goal or habit, decide if it’s something you can achieve now or if there are additional steps you should take to be prepared.
And be RELEVANT – Each of your goals should align with your values and larger, long-term goals. If a goal doesn’t contribute toward God’s vision for your life, you might want to rethink it.
And TIME-BASED – What is your goal time-frame? What’s an actual end-date that can help you provide motivation and help you prioritize your time?
From there just get some accountability from people who love you and want to see you live out God’s dream for your life.
SMART Habits. These are all great, and you should use them for any goals & habits you wanna create in your life.
But, one of the most important things you can do in the process of thinking about reshaping your habits, is to ask God what HE wants for your life. And if you have no idea what that even means, Just start reading through the Bible in Romans 12, and 2 Timothy 2, they speak a lot to what our life should look like.
Habits have the power to impact your life in a profound way. So, if you’re going to create good habits, you kind of need to know what your target is. The Bible says that our destiny is to carry hope to the world.
Col 1:27 says This mystery of Christ, embedded within us, becomes a heavenly treasure chest of hope filled with the riches of glory for his people, and God wants everyone to know it!
So create your SMART Habits then submit all of it to God with an open hand knowing He knows best.
And with each good habit, it should position you to be that treasure chest of Hope.
Our last thought for you is this, never quit. There will be days you miss the mark, and that’s ok, just don’t take the exit, don’t get off the path forward. Trust God, look to Jesus, and keep moving forward in faith.
