Success in the kingdom of God is obedience, not results.
If you don’t know where to begin, here’s a super simple way to live a lifestyle of obedience. God said _______, so I will ________. As you engage the word of God and He speaks to you, God said _______, so I will ________.
What’s up Valley Creek Students & welcome to Student Circles. Man, this weekend’s message was straight fire! We learned that success in the kingdom is obedience, not results. Another way to say it is that active obedience is how we can experience more of the goodness of God in our lives.
So, if you have ever felt like you are far from God or maybe you sense some distance in your relationship with God right now, it’s all connected to this word we love so much obedience.
Let me hear you say obey.
That probably made a few of us feel some kind of way just now. I think when we hear that word we immediately back up. Like there’s something about it that makes us want to run away. But what if that word alone, was a secret formula for success and God wanted you to embrace it? Check this out.
Maybe we feel like we aren’t doing that bad, but what’s wild about disobedience, is that it’s usually subtle. It’s the attitude we give our parents when they tell us to do something, it’s the talking back under your breath when teachers are instructing us, or just the idea of breaking the rules to break the rules. And while we are all born with a rebel heart, disobedience is dangerous to our spiritual journey and limits our relationship with God. Not that He loves us any less, but disobedience, limits our ability to hear God.
And the reason we even disobey in the first place is because somewhere in our heart, we doubt the goodness of God. Because the same way obedience is a choice, so is disobedience. And we choose what we truly believe will be better for us. Whenever we choose what we think is best over what God thinks is best, that’s us doubting the goodness of God and choosing to disobey.
So, let me ask you, what’s the last thing God asked you to do? Have you done it yet?
And if you struggle with obedience, you’re not alone, but there’s so much more for you. Remember, active obedience is how we can experience more of the goodness of God in our lives.
And when we obey…
· It reminds us of our identity
· It honors our relationship
· It positions us for purpose
When we know who we are and who God is we can walk in our God given purpose to carry hope. It’s all connected back to obedience Jesus’ obedience determined our identity already and our obedience always determines our level of relationship we get to experience with Him.
Obedience is super important in the kingdom of God, and the good news is that this is not all left on you to figure out on your own either, listen to this.
Like when you choose to shut down social media for a few minutes and choose to engage the reading plan or pray or spend time worshipping. It impacts the level of relationship you experience. Again, not because God has gone anywhere or loves you less, but because you no longer hear his voice because we have allowed so many other voices in our world to drown his out. But when we hear his voice and obey it, it brings blessing and closeness in our relationship. (LUKE 11:28)
So, if you don’t know where to begin, here’s a super simple way to live a lifestyle of obedience. Go ahead and write this down in your journal.
God Said _________, So I will __________
And as you engage the word of God and He speaks to you, God said________, So I will ________.
And when you truly believe He’s a Good Father who has your best interests in mind, it removes the doubt, and allows you to obey all the way with a good attitude.
Remember, active obedience is how we can experience more of the goodness of God in our lives.
