In this message, we reflect on the entire series and apply His revelation to our lives.
Hey, everybody. Welcome to Valley Creek church. If this is your first time I am so glad that you are here hanging out with us. We want to give a big welcome to our Denton campus, will you welcome them with me. We are so glad that you guys are here and if this is your first time in Denton welcome we are glad you are here and today what we are going to do is we are going to wrap up our series that we have been in for the last few weeks called Upside Down Church. And, to be honest with you, this is a really hard series to wrap up because there is so much more to say about this topic. For the past few weeks we have just been talking about this concept of the church that can turn the world upside down and our theme verse has been Acts 17:6, it says those men who have turned the world upside down have come here also. Talking about the first century church, all the world knew about that first century churches everywhere they went, they turned the world upside down, everywhere they went things were changed new norms were created, realities were subverted, things were torn down, other things were built up, heaven came to earth, people were set free and when people are set free everything changes.
Everywhere the first century church went they turn the world upside down. And, we have said in this series that, that is not just a good idea or something that just happened that is what God wants to happen with us with all churches. We should always be turning the world upside down and yet we have said if we are honest very few of us have ever experienced that in our lives. Most of us have seen the church be marginalized or sidelines, a religious organization or institution kind of irrelevant off over here, but that is not what the church is supposed to be. And, so, we have been talking about this truth that if we are going to be the church that turns the world upside down, we need to turn our thinking upside down. We need to change the way we think, so we can change the way we live and change the church experience that we have and the church experience that the world has. And, so, let me just kind of take you back through where we have been over the last few weeks. First week we started we talked about being planted to flourish. Do you remember that, we said Psalm 92:13, those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish.
That no man can tear down that which Jesus is building. So, if you are planted in a life giving local church, then no man can tear you down. And, we said the church is in a building or an organization, but that you are the church, that the church is the people of God united by the Spirit of God under the Lordship of Jesus sent to change the world. And, we said the valley Creek church we have this one simple thing we have 1, 3, and 5. One vision, three values, and five facets of our strategy and we gave everybody that was here one of these shirts, and we said there were a Jesus focus spirit filled life giving church, that Jesus is the narrow gate that leads to a wide life, do you remember that. Okay. The best part about this shirt is I have not had to think about what I am going to wear in six weeks, it is been awesome. Okay, so that was week number one and for all of you who love to give me plaid jokes, there you go, six weeks. I have been wearing this shirt. Alright, so that was week one and week two, then we talked about the church walks on water.
that we are the church of Jesus and we never stop walking on water. We get out of the boat and we fix our eyes on Jesus and we do the impossible. And, we said we will be people that will risk everything, release everyone, and reach anyone. And, that we would rather get wet walking on water than be a critic dry in the boat. Okay, that was the second week. Third week we talked about being a worshipping church, we said that is a calling on this church on this unique family that we are going to be worshipers that is who God has called us to be worship is not just something we do a worship or is who you are, it is your identity. And, we said there is always a reason to worship that the songs you sing are a reflection of who you are, and that worship sets us free. And, so, that was the week we talked about booties and dollars and hope and heaven, remember that. And, we said we would much rather a 60-year-old be singing and dancing to you are worthy than Shake that booty, right. And, we said that we are going to choose to be people that worship so we are going to come on time and we are going to be here and we are going to engage with the presence of God with everything that we have and we released our worship CD.
And, then last week we talked about family on mission. We said that the church is family on mission, deeply devoted to each other and deeply committed to his cause, that we are not individuals looking for consumption, deeply devoted to self and deeply devoted to consume we are family on mission. And, that God is building a family for himself that you can only reach your potential and healthy family, and that the world longs to belong to a healthy family and so Jesus has created for them, the church. And, so, we have covered a lot of ground over these last few weeks. So, here is my question for you. What are you going to do with it. What are you going to do with everything we have talked about over these last few weeks. How are you going to apply it to your life. How are you going to change the way you think so you can change the way you live.
Like what is Jesus been saying to you and how are you going to respond. You see, the last thing I want to tell you in this series and this is probably maybe the most important thing that I am going to say in the entire series and it is this, the church that turns the world upside down, applies revelation to its life. The church that turns the world upside down applies actually applies revelation to their life, they do something with what Jesus is teaching them. In Matthew 4:17, Jesus says, repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand, repent. It does not mean feel really bad about yourself and come to the altar, it means change your thinking. Jesus says change your thinking because the kingdom of heaven is commerce, superior reality has showed up to the reality that you have been believing, so, change the way you think and it will change the way you live. Luke 11:28, Jesus says, blessed are those who hear the Word of God and obey, catch this. Blessed are those who hear and obey.
Jesus says you are not blessed if you hear good revelation or truth, you are only blessed when you hear it and obey it. Apply it to your life, which means you can sit in church over the course of your lifetime and listen to 1000 great sermons, but you are not blessed by hearing those messages, you are only blessed when you hear them and obey, apply what Jesus is showing you to your life. And, so, really the only question I have for you today is, what are you going to do with what we have been talking about. You are like I pick the wrong week to come. Yes, you did. If you got your Bible Romans chapter 12, if Acts 17:6 has been the theme verse of this series Romans 12 one and two is really the undergirding. Here is what it says. Therefore, I urge you brothers in view of God’s mercy to offer your bodies as living sacrifices holy and pleasing to God.
This is your spiritual act of worship, do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is his good, pleasing, and perfect will. He says you no longer belong to yourself so live a life worthy of this new reality and this new identity that you have in Jesus. And, he says, do not be conformed any longer to the pattern of this world. Do not be conformed that word literally means to shape, to mold, or to imprint. Every single one of us in some way shape or form we have been conformed to the pattern of this world. We have been shaped or molded or imprinted by the thinking of this world of which we live in. And, so, maybe it was from your experiences or your past or religion or the church you grew up in but we have been shaped and molded and imprinted, and it is determined how we view the church. We have conformed to the pattern of the world. And, so, what most of us have done is we have allowed our experiences to determine our theology.
Most people’s theology does not come from reading the Bible or from what the Holy Spirit tells him, most people’s theology comes from their experience, but do not let your experience determine your theology, let your theology determine your experience. Do not bring your theology down to whatever you have experienced in life, instead raise your experiences up to your theology what God has actually told you. And, so, we have conformed to the pattern of this world, we have allowed our experiences to determine our theology, which means we have believed a lie. That is all that means. Conforming to the pattern of this world means you have believed a lie. We believe the lie about what the church is and what the church is not. And, when you believe a lie, you agree with the liar. Think about this for a second. When you believe a lie, you agree with the liar. And, when you agree with the liar, you align yourself with him and whoever you are aligned with you give authority to them in your life.
So, when you believe a lie, what I am saying to you is you come into agreement with Satan. And, when you are in agreement with Satan you have then just aligned yourself with Satan, and whoever you are aligned with you have given them authority in your life, so, you actually give Satan the authority in your life when you believe a lie and conform to the pattern of this world. And, so, your choices as you can believe a lie and agree with the liar Satan, or you can believe the truth and agree with the one who is true, and align yourself with he who is true and give authority to he who is true, and His name is Jesus. He says do not conform to the pattern of this world. Stop believing a lie, be transformed by the renewing of your mind, change the way you think and it will change the way you live. Proverbs 23:7 says as a man think in his heart so is he. However, I think is going to determine the way I live, I could say to you like this, your behaviors are a direct result of whatever you believe.
Whatever you believe will determine your behavior because as a man think in his heart so is he so whatever I believe determines the behaviors in my life. And, so, if you say well how do I know what I believe, just look at your behaviors. Your behaviors are an exact representation of what you actually believe in your heart. So, if you want your behaviors to change you have to change what you believe. So, when he is saying be transformed by the renewing of your mind you know what he is saying, he is saying apply revelation to your life. Remember the gospel is not just a message of good news it is a message of change. To follow Jesus is to change. No, that is not comfortable. No, it is not convenient, it is certainly is not easy, but the short-term pain of change will always bring the long-term transformation you and I desire. And, so, the question is, what are you going to do with what we have been talking about.
I mean think about it, the first century church like us, they were conformed to the pattern of this world. In other words, they believed lies. The first century church, they fought when Jesus talked about the kingdom, the whole time, even into the book of Acts, they believed that Jesus was talking about the Israelite Kingdom, a political kingdom that he is going to get rid of the Romans and establish them as a power over their own nation. And, then they believe the lie about the Holy Spirit, that only certain people could have the Holy Spirit and they believed the lie about the gospel and they thought that only the Jews could have the gospel and it was not for the Gentiles and they believed the lie and thought you had to be circumcised in order to be saved, they bought into that. And, then believe that the gospel was not powerful enough to change a man by the name of Saul, who was persecuting the church to a guy named Paul, who could write most of the New Testament. But, Jesus gave them revelation and he gave them revelation about those things they did not just say, yeah, nice message Jesus that was great and go back to believing a lie.
They applied it to their life, they changed the way they thought, and then changed the way they lived and that is why they kept turning the world upside down. Jesus gave them revelation and all of a sudden they realize wait a second, Jesus is not talking about the kingdom of Israel, he is talking about the kingdom of God and it is going to be for all of the world. And, then they realize wait a second, the Holy Spirit is not just for a handful of the few elite people. The Holy Spirit is for everybody who wants to trust Jesus, and then then all of a sudden understood wait a second, the gospel is not just for the Jews, the gospel is for the Gentiles to for all who believe in him and then they realize that you do not have to be circumcised to be saved, you just have to believe in Jesus and all the Gentile men threw a big party, because they were so grateful that revelation got applied, there is a cost when you do not apply revelation to your life. That is funny right there are people I do not care if you want to laugh or not.
I just thought of it and I think it is funny. And, then they realized that the gospel was powerful enough to change a guy named Saul into the name of Paul, that the gospel could change anyone at any time, they changed the way they thought, it changed the way they lived and they never stopped turning the world upside down, because they applied the revelation God was giving them. And, so, basically here is what I am trying to tell you I am trying to tell you this, unused revelation will always lead to a hard heart in you. Unused revelation creates a hard heart within us. If you do not apply that what Jesus is teaching, you actually makes your heart harder than it already is. I mean, you understand that is why Jesus taught in parables. You ever wonder that why in the gospels Jesus he flat out says he says I teach in parables so that people would not understand me. He said what, Jesus, do not you want everybody to understand you, like why are you teaching in a way that everybody is not going to get why.
Because Jesus did not want to give revelation to people who did not want it, because he knew it would make their heart harder than it already was. He refused to give revelation to the crowd, because he knew if they did not really want to apply it to their life, if he gave it to them it would make their heart harder than it already was, so, was actually his love to teach in parables, so that those who are hungry to find the revelation and apply to their lives would be the only ones to discover. In other words, I could say to like this. It is actually dangerous to spend your whole life listening to sermons in church, with no willingness to apply what you are learning. It is dangerous. Because it is making your heart harder every time you come in and hear His truth and walk out and want nothing to do with it. It makes your heart a little bit harder than it was when you walked in. And, you say, wait a second, bro where you getting that from the Bible. Okay.
How about this, Mark chapter six, is story the feeding of the 5000 member, there is 5000 people and just a few loaves and a few fish, and Jesus multiplies it the disciples give us a phenomenal miracle I mean, they just watched Jesus multiply bread and loaves to feed 1000s of people and they realized in that moment he is the lord of creation. He can do anything he wants at any point in time, you can talk about a good sermon you want to talk about some revelation that was a good deal. And, so, as soon as it is done the very thing that Jesus does the next thing is he sends the disciples into a boat out in the Sea of Galilee, he goes up into the mountain to go and pray with a father, the disciples are by themselves a big storm appears they start freaking out Jesus comes walking on the water. They are panicking they are in fear mode, and here is what it says Mark 6:50 and 52, immediately says Jesus walking on water he spoke to them and said, take courage it is I do not be afraid. Then he climbed into the boat with them and the wind died down, they were completely amazed, for they had not understood about the loaves, their hearts were hardened.
In other words, Jesus just gave them some profound revelation and sent them into a situation where he was expecting them to use it. And, they did not use it. And, it made their heart harder than it already was. How many times does Jesus give you a revelation and then literally that week send you into a situation where you know you need to use it. That is why some weeks when we are sitting here and we are hearing stuff we are like oh it is going to be rough week. Because God’s going to send me into sermon I am going to have to use it. Yes, he is. Because he knows how important it is for you to use it right away. They just realized he was Lord of all creation, now here in this moment they’re afraid of a little storm. Come on, you got to be kidding me, He is like apply what I just showed you, in your life. And, not only does it make your heart harder, you will actually lose the revelation you did have if you do not use it.
Listen to this Mark 4:24 and 25, consider carefully what you hear. Be a good steward with the measure you use it will be measured to you and even more, whoever has will be given more and whoever does not have even what he has will be taken from him. In other words, he says, Hey, so I am going to give you revelation and if you steward it well I will give you even more but if you do not steward it well even that of what you have, I will have to take it back from you. Whatever you do with what God says yesterday determines what you hear tomorrow. How many times have you sat and heard great revelation. But because you did not write it down or did not use it. A few weeks go by, a few months go by and you reflect back on something you are like, oh, wait a second, God showed me something about that what was it, and you cannot remember because you did not use it and you did not write it down, and so, poof, it is gone. Do you know what I am talking about.
That happens all the time to all of us. This is the verse that is explaining what is happening. See most of us, we actually do not need another sermon. We need to apply what God’s already shared with us. That is how we do not get conformed to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of our minds. So, I would say to you like this is it is your job to buy faith, use the revelation that you have. It is your job by faith to apply the extent of the revelation that you have to your life. And, every person sitting in this room we have a different level of revelation. Psalm 16 says that the boundary lines have fallen in pleasant places for you. So, the revelation you have it is amazing, it is incredible, it is different than all the rest of us, but it is your job to use the extent of what you have. And, if you are sitting there and you are saying revelation, that is a big word what are you talking about, okay revelation, simple, think about it like this.
Something that was hidden that has now uncovered. It is something that was hidden that got revealed think of like a car that is been tarped and you pull the tarp off of it and now you can see it, it was hidden it is now uncovered, you did not understand it you now do, you did not see it and God removed the veil and now all of a sudden you look at you are like, oh, that. It is your job to live by faith to the extent of whatever revelation you have in your life. And, I hate to break it to you but you do not know everything there is to know about God yet. To know that, we okay to admit that together today, I do not either none of us do. And, so, what God does is he takes us through something called progressive revelation, where he progressively reveals more and more of himself and his word and who we are in the kingdom of progressive revelation. The best way I can describe it to you would be like this. Think of a picture from a moment okay.
Let us say we have a beautiful picture of beautiful painting, we folded it up into 100 little folds of a piece of paper, and I handed it to you and on that first fold you can see a sun. And, so you say, oh, this is a picture of a sun. And, so, open one fold and you open up the first one you say, ah, it is not a picture of a sun it is a picture of the sky, look at because there is the blue sky and the clouds and the sun and we said okay open another folder you open up ah, it is not a picture of the sky it is a picture of the ocean, because look, there is the water and there is the sky and there is the clouds and there is the sun. We say, okay, open it again, you open it, ah, it is not a picture of the ocean, it is a picture of the beach, because look at here is the sand and there is the ocean and there is the clouds and the blue sky and there is the sun. We say, okay, open it one more time and we say, ah, come on, we say, ah, okay. Yeah, oh, it is a picture of a little boy having a great day on the beach, because there is the little boy and there is the sand and there is the ocean, there is the clouds, and there is the sun.
We say open one more time and we say, ah, we say look at it is a family on vacation in Florida because there is the mom and dad and the kids, and the beach and the ocean and the clouds and the sky and the sun, you get what I am saying right, that is how God does it with us. You do not have a full picture of who he is, of what the church is, of who you are, of the kingdom of heaven, but when you by faith live to the extent of the revelation you have, he opens up a new fold for you. If you will live to the edge of the paper, he will open up another fold and say let me show you a little bit more about who I am, who you are and what this thing called the kingdom of heaven in the church is really all about. But, if you do not live to the extent of the revelation that you have, he lets you stay at whatever picture that you are stuck on. And, so, I am convinced most Christians go through their life thinking the kingdom of heaven is the sun. They never get to the clouds and the sky, and the ocean and the beach and the kid, and the party and all that stuff, because they are good enough with this and they do not apply this to their life.
So, God says, I cannot give you any more, until you do something with what I have already given you. And, then we get annoyed and bored in church and we say church is boring it is the same sermons all the time. How many times we are going to hear about a guy named Zacchaeus, okay. You are still on the sun. Because I will tell you what, every time I read Zacchaeus when I am walking with God, I learned something I did not know. And, the fold opens a little more, say, ah, there is two families on vacation. What are you going to do with what we have been talking about. You see for good or bad, however you view this because I love you I am always leading you to change. Some of you that is great. Some of you that is horrid.
But, because I love you I am always leading you to change, I push you, I pull you, I try to inspire you, I try to motivate you. I am always trying to lead you to change because I am not trying to give you a nice church experience, I am trying to help you become like Jesus. And, there is a dramatic difference between those two things. Hebrews 12:2 says, let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. In Corinthians 3:18, the more we look at him, the more we are transformed into the image and likeness of God. I am not trying to give you a good church experience, I am trying to help you become like Jesus, and really nice church experiences actually keep us from becoming like Jesus. If you can handle that that there is the cloud, that is one of those. Because what we think is comfortable and convenient and easy and just encourages and comforts us actually does not help us become like Jesus. What helps us become like Jesus is when we say, okay, here is the revelation, how are we going to use it so we can unfold to the next piece of paper.
I mean think of a coach for a second Jason Garrett cowboys coach. I mean, imagine if every day when he went to practice, he just looked at all the guys and said hey guys, what do you want to do today. You have been working so hard like I think you know what let us stop running sprints you run enough and let us not do tackling and blocking drills let us go hang out in the sauna, like we were good let us wrap the day up man, you guys you just look good it is awesome. Some days we feel like that is how he coaches I know, but we would say that is a bad coach. His job is to inspire and push and pull and motivate and make it uncomfortable and make it inconvenient and look at the guys and say here is the game plan, here is the place we are going to run, this is how we are going to win and you need to have a winner’s mentality, which means you have to do something with what we are talking about, and everything changes and all of a sudden you are like yeah, I want to play for that guy because he believes in me and he is making me better than who I am. Okay.
So, I actually believe in you. Here is what I think, I think two thirds of the room sitting here, you do not even believe in yourself. But, I believe in you. Because I believe the Bible says you are fearfully and wonderfully made. I believe if you believe in Jesus the Holy Spirit is inside of you. I believe his divine power has given you everything you need for life and godliness. And, I believe you are God’s workmanship created in Christ Jesus to do good works which are so far beyond what you think you are capable of. I believe that about you.
And, I do not want you to be conformed to the pattern of this world. I want you to be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so, you can test and approve the good, pleasing, and acceptable will of God. I mean, remember God is always more interested in what he is doing in you than what he is doing through you.
And, when you let God do things in you apply the stuff he is teaching you, he will always do something amazing through you. I mean, just listen to this you know these verses First Corinthians 13, if I speak in tongues of men and angels, but have not love. I am only a resounding Gong or a clanging cymbal. If I had the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge. And, if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love I gain nothing. In other words, he says, who cares what God is doing through you. If you are not letting him do anything in you, so, you can speak in tongues, you can speak the mysteries of heaven, you can prophesied hear from God and speak to people. You can have faith, believe God for the impossible. You can give all you have to the poor be incredibly generous. You can surrender your body to the flame sacrifice everything in your life.
But, if God’s not doing something in you, who really cares. It is nothing he says. It is not about what you are doing, it is about who you are becoming. That is what applying revelation does, is it changes us. And, if God is love then we know we are changing, applying revelation when we become more loving. Like it goes on, love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy and it does not boast. It is not proud, it is not rude. It is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered. It keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts. Always hopes. Always perseveres. Love never fails. Are you becoming any more like that.
Because when you apply His revelation to your life that is who you become. If God is love and revelation is uncovering something about him or us that we did not know, then when we apply that revelation to our lives, that is who we become. Are you becoming like that. If the answer is no, then you are hearing good stuff, but you are not putting it into motion. And, I realize a lot of us, the reason we do not do anything, especially in the series on church is because we have been hurt in church. And, I do this probably once a year because I so believe in it and I think it is so significant but if you are here and you have been hurt by church. I want to tell you as a church leader, I am so sorry for whatever hurt you experience. Hurting people hurt people. And, broken people do broken things.
And, if you were hurt by a church or a church leader or a church group somewhere, it was hurting people that hurt you, and it was a broken person who did a broken thing that is not Jesus’s heart. That is not the Church of the Bible. And, so, as a church leader if that is you will you forgive me, on behalf of whoever has hurt you. Will you accept my apology to say I am so sorry that someone, somewhere in the church hurt you like that it is caused you to recoil and sit back on the sidelines. So, I do not want anything to do with that anymore. And, so, what is happened is you have been conformed to the pattern of this world. And, on behalf of Jesus’s church I want to ask for your forgiveness and say can you now be transformed by the renewing of your mind and reengage in this thing called upside down church that turns the world upside down.
You see the beauty about applying this revelation of the church to our lives is all of our kids in this church as they grow up and anybody new that joins us along the way, when we apply everything we have talked about for this last series to our lives, they come in and they get conformed to the positive. They get shaped and molded and imprinted and this is all they ever know, so, their theology is an accurate reflection of the experience that they are actually having because we are living upside down thinking which is creating upside down church. All my kids know, all our students in this church know growing up, this is church. That is amazing. When people join us and they say what is this thing, this is crazy. Yes it is. This is called church Jesus’s way. Not church religious way. So, let me close with this, in John chapter five.
You are familiar with the stories, the story of the paralytic man in the Pool of Bethesda. Pool of Bethesda was a nasty place. It was where all the sick and diseased and broken people used to hang out because they believed that every once in a while an angel would come and stir the water in the first person into the water once it got stirred would be healed. And, so, was full of these hopeless and broken and nasty people all sitting around waiting to be healed and one-day Jesus goes to the Pool of Bethesda. The last place you and I would ever go is one of the first places that Jesus goes in the Gospel of John. And, he goes there and there is a man a paralytic, he is been paralyzed for 38 years, 38 years he sat on a mat next to the Pool of Bethesda, and Jesus walks right up to this man and says, do you want to get well. It is probably the most fascinating question Jesus asks anybody in all of the Gospels, do you want to get well, for 38 years, he sat there. I can picture the disciples being like Jesus are you kidding me man.
Look at the guy, yeah, he wants to get heal, heal him and let us get out of this nasty place before we catch a disease to like if we all die we cannot change the world for you. Do you want to get well, I love how the man replies, he says, sir, when the water is stirred, I have no one to help me get into the water. So, someone else gets down there before me and that is why I do not get healed. He is not answering the question Jesus is asking him. Jesus is asking him does he want to get well and he is talking about why he has not changed, why he has not moved forward, why he is the way that he is. I think that is a great picture for us in the terms of the church and revelation because I think Jesus walks into the brokenness of our lives, and the only question he is asking us is, do you want to get well.
And, we sit there and say, no, I got hurt here and I had a bad church experience as a kid and no one invited me into their group and I do not understand that and I got offended last week and I do not want to raise my hands and I do not like this thing over here, and why is it too long and why is it too short and it is not what he is asking you. So, you can sit here and tell us, I am too busy, I am too this, I am that, people I am too afraid to share my brokenness, I might be shy. He is not asking you that. Stop answering the question he is not asking, he is asking do you want to get well. And, a lot of us never get well because we just refused to answer the question he is actually asking so we sit on a little three foot by six foot mat our entire church experience. We refuse to apply revelation, we refuse to get up and move, and we just confine ourselves to saying this is the extent of what it will ever be. Do you want to go get well then pick up your mat and walk He says. Change the way you think it will change the way you live, your whole church experience, your whole life with Jesus, it will change. If you will just say yes Jesus, I want to get well.
We want to say, but how are you going to do it, it is not the questions. We talked about taking next steps around here all the time. And, it is easy to all of a sudden make it about, oh yeah, the person that is new should take the next step, oh, that’s a pathway class that, yeah I am good I do not need to take an next step, yes, you do. Psalm 119:105, he says your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light into my path. In other words, he shows you your next step in the direction you are going, and that is about it. All the questions you want to know in between, he leaves them blank, because he wants you to look at him instead of the details of where you are going. And, so, what is the next step you need to take in this area of changing the way you think, so, it will change the way you live of upside down church of getting up out of your mat and walking, I am applying revelation. Do you want to get well. I want you to get well.
I want to get well. But, I cannot want it for you. You have to want it for yourself. Romans 12 one and two, do not be conformed to the pattern of this world. Do not let them imprint you, be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Apply revelation to your life, then and only then will you be able to test and prove the good, pleasing, and acceptable will of God for your life. So, let us do this, will you close your eyes with me. And, as we wrap this series here is just what I want to ask you, what is the Holy Spirit saying to you and what is your next step.
What is the Holy Spirit want to say to you right now, this time in this place? What is he whispering? Where is he inviting you to change your thinking? Where is he pointing out a behavior that he is saying, I want to change this? So, let us change what you believe. Where is he pushing on you and saying hey you believe the lie here. So, you are giving authority to Satan in this area. Will you believe me instead? What is the Holy Spirit saying and what is your next step. What are you going to do? With what we have been talking about? I understand this may not be the most comfortable message, but here is the reality because I love you, if I do not tell you this then you get revelation and if you do not use it, it makes your heart hard and you lose the very revelation that you have.
So, we become even more ingrained in the lie we believe about church. Everything we have talked about for the last few weeks, the danger of it is because we have talked about it, it is exposed the lies in our hearts. And, if we do not apply it, the lie we believe gets even deeper within us. And, will get even harder to unearth in the days to come. So, what are you going to do? And, here is my encouragement to you. Just be honest with God. Do not just pretend in this moment like you are going to do something, if you do not want to do something just tell God, I got no interest in doing something. When Jesus tells a story he says a man had two sons and he sent them into his vineyard. And, the first son said to him, I will not go. Like, no dad, not interested in this revelation, not interested in obeying, not interested in doing anything with it. No, I would not go, but, later he went.
And, then he had a second son that said I will go dad, but never went. It was easy for him to say sure, yeah, but then when it came to it, he did not do anything with it. And, Jesus says which of those two sons does the father prefer and they shout back at him first. Because, if you can just look to Jesus and say Jesus I really do not care, I do not care about church, I am not really interested in it, I am just going to flat out say, I just do not want to follow right now Jesus appreciates the honesty. And, he can do more with an honest heart, than he can with a religious heart that says the right words, but really has no desire to obey. So, can you just be honest with God. Let him set you free in that and watch what he can do, what is the Holy Spirit saying and what is your next step.
Lord Jesus we say you have not trusted this church with amazing revelation. You have uncovered deep and mysterious things about the kingdom of God and about who you are and about who we are, and we say thank you lord. Thank you lord, help us be good stewards. And, may we change the way we think that we may change the way we live. May we have the courage to be honest with you, Holy Spirit is speak to us, show us where we believe the lie and need to change courses, and may we have the courage to actually walk that out with you. Your Grace it gives us undeserved favor, but supernatural empowerment. And, so, if you will just say, man, I need to start worshipping, I need to join and be a part of the family, I need people in my life, I need to serve or to give or to lead or to be planted and not say Valley Creek they, but Valley Creek we, whatever that is, if you say that to him, His grace will give you the supernatural empowerment you need.
So, can you not resist what is happening in this moment but can you receive it and apply revelation to your life. Because that is how we turn the world upside down. So, Jesus we love you, we say we will follow you and we want to be a church that has upside down thinking. So, we can turn this world upside down for you. We love you Lord. In your name we pray, Amen.
